  1. High School Redesign Commission • Scott Norton • October, 2009

  2. Current EOC Graduation Policy For incoming freshmen in 2010-2011 and beyond: • Students must pass three End-of-Course Tests in the following categories: • i. English II or English III • ii. Algebra I or Geometry • iii. Biology or American History

  3. Career Diploma Students • By law, Career Diploma students must take: • Algebra I (but not Geometry) • English II (but not English III) • Biology • American History • Therefore, these students are not required to take Geometry or English III.

  4. Options to Consider • Option 1: Career diploma students must pass English II or English III, Algebra I or Geometry, and Biology or American History.

  5. Options to Consider (cont.) • Option 2: Career diploma students must pass English II or English III, Algebra I or Geometry, and Biology or American History. • For the Algebra I and English II tests, allow an appeal for career diploma students who failed the test, but met certain criteria. • Allowing students the appeal would compensate for their missed opportunities on the Geometry and English III tests.

  6. Options to Consider (cont.) • Option 3: Allow some other tests to substitute for the math or English EOC requirements. • For example, an ACT math score of “X” would count as the students’ assessment requirement for math.

  7. Options to Consider (cont.) • Option 4: Develop some additional EOC tests to substitute for Geometry and English II for career diploma students
