  2. Biography • Born in Senen, Jakarta in 11 May 1914 • He wrote more than 240 piecesss • Began composing at the age of 17 • Member of lief Java orchestra (1936) • In 1937 he joined colonial radio orchestra • He remained there for the rest of his life • Died in 25 Mei 1958

Ismail’s Life • Halo-halo bandung (patriotic song composed when bandung was in fire due to the fierce fight in 1945 • Other piece: Rayuan pulau kelapa, Kalau anggrek berbunga, Siasat asmara, jauh dimata dihati jangan and Irian samba composed in 1944. Received admiration form overseas composers • Experience of colonial era impacted his musical piece • Contribution: Struggle for Indepence • Ismail received the disntinct honour of having his name put on the new Jakarta arts center in 1968 which known as Taman Ismail Marzuki.
