Temporary Adjustment for FA16 & SP17 • Item 3.000 • Lecture classes must be scheduled on the hour from 8:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. on MWF. • Ninety minutes lectures may be scheduled starting at 11:00 a.m. on MWF. • Item 3.100 • Difficult to implement. • All other scheduling options on M-W-F and T-Th will remain unchanged

  3. Key Reasons for Adjustment • Greater demand for classrooms in prime-time • M-TH 9:30-2:30 – Greater then 92% utilization • F – Less than 30% utilization • Critical for Student Success • PH2 Renovation • Inefficient Use of Classroom Space • Increasing Enrollment

  4. Anticipated Benefits • If we implement the temporary adjustment, we will add spaces for 130 new sections. • We offer over 4400 lecture/seminar sections in FA15. • Additional spaces will address our immediate critical need.

  5. Class Schedule for FA 15 • 8500 sections of courses (LECT, LAB, ACT, SEM, SUP) • 4400 sections are LECT & SEM • 1174 sections are LECT & SEM offered on MW pattern • 289 sections are 3 unit LECT & SEM offered on MW pattern between 8AM and 11AM.

SUMMARY • POLICY ADJUSTMENT (Temporary) • Lecture classes must be scheduled on the hour from 8:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. on MWF • Ninety minutes lectures may be scheduled starting at 11:00 a.m. on MWF • 289 sections may be touched by this change • Well over 50% can accommodate this request without significant challenges.

  9. SUMMARY • We need this temporary adjustment to plan for Fall 2016. Planning begins in October. • Any permanent changes to policy requires considerable understanding of the data and current practices.
