Evaluation Direct model implementation BB sources Soil dust adjointization 1D-VAR /4D-VAR 5-year analysis Upgrade + integration analysis 2005 2006 2007
WORK PLAN WP1: Implementation of the direct model - implement present version LOA/MPI/ECMWF - BB sources and injection height FMI/MPI - emissions of dust soil NMO/MPI WP2: Data assimilation LOA/ECMWF/Köln - adjointization of RT codes - Preparation of satellite data - 1D-VAR implementation - 4D-VAR implementation WP3: Production of a 5-yr analysis ECMWF
WORK PLAN (continued) WP4: Evaluation and analysis - surface radiation ECMWF/LOA/KMI - AOD ECMWF/KMI/LOA - aerosol fields Galway (chemistry and physics) - analysis of source contribution + System upgrade from WP1 after 2 years & Integration with other sub-projects in 2007 + Overall evaluation
CROSS-CUTTING THEMES Interface with RG Interface with AQ (global / regional) Biomass burning emissions (RG, GG) Biogenic emissions (RG) Code development (advection, convection, diffusion)
Interface AQ/AEROSOL - boundary conditions (lateral, top) - expertise on data assiilation (surface vs satellite) - feedback from AQ models/groups on AEROSOL model - high-resolution emissions over EMEP region SO2, VOC, NH3, PM2.5, PM10, 50x50 km² + hourly, weekly, monthly - link to ACCENT to consolidate emission - long range transport of dust
DELIVERABLES - INTERIM * * * - FINAL * 4D distribution of atmospheric aerosols at 50-100 km resolution * aerosol properties for all sorts of atmospheric corrections * concentrations of PM for air pollution related issues * initial and boundary conditions for smaller-scale air quality models * visibility range (e.g., air traffic, tourism) * photosynthetically active radiation (for e.g. CO2 cycle) * aerosol deposition flux (impact on vegetation, acid rain) - IN (what we need!) * * *
