Sample Introduction George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm begins with the animals’ anticipation of a speech to be given by one of the pigs. All of the animals from the smallest mouse to the largest work horse eagerly wait to hear what great words of wisdom he has to share. The most ancient of all the animals, Old Major in his speech proclaims that he has had a dream and feels it is imperative that he share this dream with all of the other animals. The wise, esteemed Old Major persuades his comrades to rebel against man by appealing to their emotions and logic.
