  2. Dryer Settings • Speed SettingsFast & SlowSome dryer have a medium speed setting • Heat SettingsHot & WarmSome dryers have a cool setting • Cool Shot ButtonSome dryers have this feature, some don’t Cosmetology I -Round Brush/Blowdry

  3. Holding the Dryer • ALWAYS hold by the handle • Place fingers to avoid button changes • Firm grip on the handle • NEVER hold dryer by the nozzle Cosmetology I -Round Brush/Blowdry

  4. Holding the Brush • Grasp the handle firmly • Hair will follow the handle • Hold brush horizontally • Use thumbs to rotate Cosmetology I -Round Brush/Blowdry

  5. Drying the hair- Stage 1 • Dry base area first • Dry middle shaft next • Use fingers to lift hair • Rotate dryer in circles • Dry hair 75% • Do not dry ends Cosmetology I -Round Brush/Blowdry

  6. Direct Airflow • Air must come from the top • Hold dryer nozzle down • Don’t hold the dryer in one place Cosmetology I -Round Brush/Blowdry

  7. Sectioning • Hair must be 75% dry • Section vertically from bang to nape • Section vertically from crown to behind ear on both sides Cosmetology I -Round Brush/Blowdry

  8. Horizontal sections • 1” horizontal section • Across nape, both sections • Continue 1” horizontal sections • Work up the back and around the head • Must follow this pattern Cosmetology I -Round Brush/Blowdry

  9. Drying the Nape • Sub-sections no larger than 1” • Hold brush parallel to base • Hair will follow the handle • Dry base, middle, then ends Cosmetology I -Round Brush/Blowdry

  10. Drying ends • Dry base and middle first • Rotate brush underneath hair ends • Dry ends using slow speed setting • Hair will follow handle Cosmetology I -Round Brush/Blowdry

  11. Safety • Direct airflow AWAY from scalp • Airflow directed from the top • Do not concentrate air in one place • Always use a nozzle on the dryer end Cosmetology I -Round Brush/Blowdry

  12. Finish • Make sure ends are curled under • No gaps between sections • Hair is smooth • Bottom is uniform Cosmetology I -Round Brush/Blowdry
