Problem Statement • Design a new fuel tank for the test vehicle (2002 Ford Explorer) • Design casing for battery, electronics, and controller • Safety test new fuel tank • Perform engineering analysis on the battery casing • Consider impact of the additional weight on vehicle performance • Install newly designed componentson test vehicle

  4. Design Partition • “Take Apart the Truck” • Remove spare tire • Remove gas tank / fuel lines • Dismantle exhaust system

  5. Design Partition (cont.) • Design the new parts • Gas tank configuration • Battery box configuration • Reroute fuel lines • Determine fuel pump size / flow rate • Material Design • Select battery box material / fasteners • Select gas tank material / fasteners

  6. Project Plan • Each member was assigned specific tasks • Each task has its own due date • The team will critique the individual work in progress to then integrate into overall design • Order and manufacture necessary parts • Assemble the new parts into the truck
