ME4182 Progress Report Team: Future Crew Technologies Chris Biggers Simon Cole Chuck Devane Ray Cortes Victor Renteria Tejuan Rowe Professor: Dr. Lipkin Date: September 5, 2001
Agenda • Problem Statement • Design Partition • Project Plan • Task Assignments
Problem Statement • Design a new fuel tank for the test vehicle (2002 Ford Explorer) • Design casing for battery, electronics, and controller • Safety test new fuel tank • Perform engineering analysis on the battery casing • Consider impact of the additional weight on vehicle performance • Install newly designed componentson test vehicle
Design Partition • “Take Apart the Truck” • Remove spare tire • Remove gas tank / fuel lines • Dismantle exhaust system
Design Partition (cont.) • Design the new parts • Gas tank configuration • Battery box configuration • Reroute fuel lines • Determine fuel pump size / flow rate • Material Design • Select battery box material / fasteners • Select gas tank material / fasteners
Project Plan • Each member was assigned specific tasks • Each task has its own due date • The team will critique the individual work in progress to then integrate into overall design • Order and manufacture necessary parts • Assemble the new parts into the truck
Task Assignments • Conceptual Designs - Group • Patent/Product Search - Chris Biggers • Selection Analysis (HOQ) - Chuck Devane • Design Partition (Function Tree) - Victor Renteria • Presentations - Group • Layout Drawings - Simon Cole • Engineering Analysis - Ray Cortes
Task Assignments (cont.) • Part Drawings - TeJuan Rowe • Prototype Building - Chris, Chuck, Ray • Prototype Testing - Simon, TeJuan, Victor • Posterboard Display - Chris, Chuck • Final Paper - Group • Website - Simon Cole
