  1. How to download a paper from an electronic journal Assuming you’re on the A-Z list of journals

  2. The A-Z list gives you basic information about each journal

  3. For example, the journal Heart

  4. This information includes the name of the supplier • Heart - BMJ , Oct 1997 - , All NHS Athens In the case of Heart the supplier is the BMJ group

  5. Alternatively, • Journal of allied health ProQuest , Apr 2002 - , All NHS Athens In this second example the supplier is Proquest.

  6. Select the supplier of the journal you wish to read from the list below to see a short presentation showing how to download • Ovid • Proquest • Sage • Science Direct • Springer • Wiley Please note that instructions for suppliers A – N can be found in the first presentation

  8. American journal of surgical pathology Note that this titles states that it is Single concurrent user access only. This means that we have purchased a cheaper licence, enabling only one user at a time to gain access to this title. George Osborne would be proud of us.

  9. After clicking on the title input your Athens details and click Login

  10. Select the year you’re looking for from the list…

  11. Now select the appropriate issue

  12. Find and download the article

  13. PDF for ease of printing

  15. American journal of health behavior Note that the holdings of this title only run from 2003 to 2009. You will not be able to download articles free of charge that were published outside this date range. Other Proquest titles have an embargo period. An embargo of one year means that only issues that are more than twelve months old are available for download.

  16. Select Athens login

  17. The options should default to NHS England. Click on Login

  18. Enter your Athens details and click Login

  19. Scroll down to see the issues available

  20. Select the year and issue you want…

  21. Find the article you wish to read…

  22. Available in PDF for ease of printing

  23. SAGE, e.g Journal of hand surgery: European volume

  24. Enter your Athens details and click Login

  25. Click on All issues

  26. Select the issue that contains the article you want to read

  27. Find and download the article

  28. To print off in glorious PDF

  29. Science Direct: e.g. Acta anaesthesiologica taiwanica

  30. Note that the holdings of this title only run from 2008 to 2011. You will not be able to download articles free of charge that were published outside this date range. Many Science Direct titles have similar restrictions, although about fifty titles have ongoing subscriptions.

  31. Enter your Athens details and click Login

  32. The site recognises you by name and affiliation

  33. Select the volume and issue you require using the options on the left of the screen

  34. Find the article and download it.

  43. Health information and libraries journal Note that this journal has a nine month embargo period. This means that only issues that are more than twelve months old are available for download. Click on the title of the journal to proceed.
