How can I help? Individual Parent Student Community Member We Can Make A Difference!
Goals: • Increase awareness of meth use and its production within Nebraska communities. • Show meth’s relationship to public health, safety, rural economic development, and families. • Compel citizens to take action to help combat this growing problem.
Network of Resources: • Nebraska State Patrol • Nebraska Health & Human Services System • HIDTA Task Force • Keep Nebraska Beautiful • Nebraska Department of Roads • Congressman Tom Osborne’s staff
What did we do? • Developed a community lesson • Leader’s Guide • Participant’s Manual • Strategies for Individuals and Communities Worksheet • PowerPoint CD
What are our experiences? • Types of groups • Knowledge and awareness level • Strategies implemented
Evaluation results: • Over 4,000 Nebraskans learned about meth in over 125 different presentations. • 16,000 participant pieces were distributed. • In a pre-,post-program evaluation, participants showed over 34% increase in all areas of knowledge presented. • Almost 74% had never attended a meth education program.
Evaluation results: • Attendees indicated they would implement at least one strategy. • Neighborhood watches • Educating others • Being more observant
Changes Needed: • Volunteer Litter Pickup • Nebraska’s State Patrol Hot Line • Teenage Drinking Problem
Hidden Dangers • Meth lab operators are now discarding waste materials in ditches and other remote areas of our community. • Leaders of scouts, 4-H, church organizations, and Adopt-A-Highway and Keep Nebraska Beautiful groups should be made aware of potential dangers.
Call local law enforcement or the Nebraska State Patrol Drug Hotline at 1-800-742-9333. If you suspect meth activity,
