Project Description • Design and simulate the electrical system of the net zero house. • Generate schematics for AC and DC power systems • Energy independent and self-sustainable system. • System will be grid-tied • Home energy monitoring system • Bill of Materials and Engineering Report. • Generate a list of materials required to complete the build. • Include extensive research on materials/appliances for the most cost/energy-effective choice. • Calculate an accurate estimate of the cost of the entire electrical system.
Team Members Responsibilities Gavin Novotny • Project Manager • Researcher • System Analysis Nakprat Anan • Load Calculation • System Simulation • One-Line Diagram ShadeiKhader • Power Consumption Calculation • System Schematic • Bill of Materials
Goal: We aim to electrically describe the home detailed in the provided floor plan such that it has zero net energy consumption.
Purpose: The results of our work will allow for the construction of a home that exemplifies the capabilities of sustainable technologies.
What makes Net Zero Home Electrical a worthwhile senior project? • Familiarity with industry standards • Experience with AutoCAD and HOMER • Awareness of available renewable technology
Sponsor and Mentor Involvement • Sponsor: Mr. Gary Hubbard • Funds • Motivation • Mentor: Professor Olga Lavrova • Technical Expertise
Major Milestones May 7th: Final Report and Final Presentation Complete February 6th: Schematics Approved by Gary Hubbard November 27th: Detailed Design Description Complete
Deliverables 1- Electrical schematics that the customer can submit to The City of Albuquerque and the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) for approval. 2-Bill Of Materials (BOM). 3- A simple user manual/engineering report. 4- House has zero net energy consumption.
Biggest challenges & concerns were listed as bullets & briefly described • Our schematics get rejected from PNM. • Getting our BOM in the designated budget • Cooling. • Electric Car. • Some of the other concerns could be associated with the structural layout. • Get most of our appliances to run on DC.
Tasks planned for the next month (or so) after the Presentation were briefly listed • Generate our schematics • submit to PNM for approval.
