Comprehensive Training to support the National Integrated TB/HIV Information System Implementation Introduction to Data Demand and Utilisation (DDU)
Expectations • Broader training expectations discussed earlier • Expectations are that attendees will: • Lead this discussion at sub-national levels • Utilise learnings to support the maintenance of THIS at sub-national levels • Provide ongoing mentoring and skills transfer to facilities • Have a similar understanding and approach in their routine activities
Entry point • Historical focus on reporting, as opposed to DDU • TIER.Net in some facilities from 2011, but still weak utilisation • Transition from implementation to maintenance • DDU is a critical aspect of THIS maintenance • DDU to be grounded in the guidance – i.e. SOP
Outline • Objectives • DDU by district • DDU in the health system • Creating a DDU culture • Current guidance and tools for DDU • Operational and programmatic exercises • 90-90-90 and THIS • Data quality in DDU • DDU for programme management
Improved data quality • With increased utilisation, data quality will improve • The more you use it, the more likely you are to find critical issues • Specific tools designed to support interrogation
Improved patient management • Improved utilisation and adherence to SOP will result in better managed patients • Institutionalisation and accountability are critical • Analysis of routine performance data will help to prioritise patient management issues

Dialogue between program & info • Active dialogue between programme and information colleagues about data and its impact on programme activities • Data largely produced by information and used by programmes
Evidence-informed decisions • Management must be able to make decisions using the information routinely produced • Focus on existing data sources (TIER.Net and webDHIS) – use what we have
Improved DDU • Overall purpose of the training is to build skills, provide tools, and link these with existing requirements and job functions • Working smarter, not harder
