Where To Find LCC SVAand How to Join • Meetings are currently held every Wednesday alternating between HHS room 007 at 4:30 pm and the Lobby of the Main Campus Library at 5:00 pm. • Simply show up to a meeting!! • Dues are $5 per semester (Fall and Spring). Summer Semester participation is optional and free.

Post 911 GI Bill Chapter 33 • The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service after September 10, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill. • Your full tuition & fees directly to the school for all public school in-state students • A monthly housing allowance (MHA) based on the Basic Allowance for Housing for an E-5 with dependents at the location of the school. • An annual books & supplies stipend of $1,000 paid proportionately based on enrollment. • The Post-9/11 GI Bill also offers some service members the opportunity to transfer their GI Bill to dependents

The Post 9/11 GI Bill Transfer GI Bill to dependents • Any member of the Armed Forces (active duty or Selected Reserve, officer or enlisted) on or after August 1, 2009, who is eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill, and: • Has at least 6 years of service in the Armed Forces (active duty and/or Selected Reserve) on the date of approval and agrees to serve 4 additional years in the Armed Forces from the date of election. • Has at least 10 years of service in the Armed Forces (active duty and/or Selected Reserve) on the date of approval, is precluded by either standard policy (Service or DoD) or statute from committing to 4 additional years, and agrees to serve for the maximum amount of time allowed by such policy or statute.

  26. How to apply for TEB • First you must go to the DOD transferability application website to determine if your dependents are eligible to receive the transferred benefits. • This website is only available to military members. http://www.defense.gov/home/features/2009/0409_gibill/

  27. Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty Chapter 30 • Available for both Active Duty and Veterans • This is a paid benefit • The member participated in payroll deduction to receive this benefit • The member may receives a monthly stipend • The amount varies with attendance level • Tuition and fees only for less than half-time attendance or Active Duty • May request Advance Pay • May receive Kickers and/or Buy-ups

  28. Montgomery GI Bill for Selected Reserves Chapter 1606 • Educational Benefit for Active members of the Selected Reserve • Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard Reserves • Army National Guard and Air National Guard • Requires a 6-year obligation and satisfactory participation in required Selected Reserve training • May request Advance Pay • Kickers • Members may receive a kicker • May be part of Enlistment or Reenlistment contract

Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP) Chapter 1607 • Educational program for active members of the Selected Reserve called to active duty in response to a contingency operation declared by the President or Congress • Eligibility is determined by the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security (Coast Guard) • Members are paid a monthly benefit depending on time in service and attendance level • May request Advance Pay • Kickers are not available

  30. Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA) Chapter 35 • Educational Assistance paid to dependents of Veterans • Eligible Child or spouse of a Veteran: • Who is permanently and totally disabled due to a service connected condition? • Who died in service? • Who died of a service-connected disability? • Who is listed POW or MIA? • Basic Rate: • Current rate is $881 per month for full-time attendance • Monthly self-certification is not required • There are no kickers with this program • May request Advance Pay

  31. Vocational Rehabilitation Chapter 31 • Rehabilitation program for disabled veterans who: • Received, or will receive a discharge under other than dishonorable conditions • Incurred or aggravated a service-connected disability which entitles them to VA disability compensation • Is in need of vocational rehabilitation because their disability creates an employment handicap.

Chapter 31 continued • Non-educational benefits: • Employment assistance • Assisted self-employment • Living assistance • Eligibility is determined by the local VA office • A discharge with a disability is insufficient • Service-connection is determined by the VA and the member must apply for consideration regardless of any disability determined by their service

Applying For Benefits • Apply on line at : http://www.gibill.va.gov/ • Submit a copy of the on-line application along a copy with DD214 to Office of Military Service on main campus • Additional paperwork required for certification of enrollment • Intent Form • Release of Benefit Form • Academic Program Plan • Veteran Academic Year Enrollment Form • Submit certificate of eligibility form upon receipt from Veterans Affairs

  35. Applying for VA Benefits • The VONAPP (Veterans On Line Application) website is an official U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) website that enables service members, veterans and their beneficiaries, and other designated individuals to apply for benefits using the Internet.

  36. You are about to begin filling in your application.You should have any information handy that we recommend for the application you are going to complete. If you have not read Instructions for Filling Out Applications, please read the information under the FAQs. Help Functions. On the left sideof thescreenthere is a button. It will say, “Show Help” or “Show FAQ”. When the “Show FAQ” is displayed, the left column will have Frequently Asked Questions regarding the page you are viewing and will help you understand what information we need. When the “Show Help” is displayed, the column will display specific information for the block the cursor is in, and tell you exactly what should be entered. Maneuvering in the form: There are three links at the top ofthe page to jump to the major parts of VONAPP: Start (initial pages and Privacy Act), Interview (beginthe questions in the form), and Final Steps (checkthe form/send to VA/print). At the bottom of most screens, in addition to the Back and Continue, you will see two links: Print (prints entire form with your information) and Validate (checks the whole form for errors/missing data). Requirements for Certification of Enrollment • All military students are require to complete/submit the Intent Form to be certified for each semester • All Chapter 33 veterans (Post 9/11 GI Bill) must register for classes in order to be certified in any semester • Voc Rehabs are certified by Josie upon receipt of Voc. Rehab. Authorization from Voc. Rehab. Counselors.

  38. Semesters Credits Summer Semester 6 or more credits full-time 5 – 4 credits ¾ time 3 credits ½ time Fall/Spring Semester 12 more credits full-time 9- 11 credits ¾ time 6 – 8 credits ½ times Please note that Chapter 33 (Post 911) must register for at least 7 credits.

Certification of Courses • Courses that are not certifiable • Audited courses • Non-Major courses • On-line Remedial courses • Repeat Courses • Only repeat a course once if you receive a failing grade or if you did not receive the standard requirements. • VA will not pay for courses that successfully completed • Educational Program Plan (EDP) require after earning 25 credits

End of Semester Academic Review • 0.0/Failing grade must report last day of attendance to CO. • “I” grade will be reported to the VA at the end of each semester • After two semesters of enrollment with less than 2.0 GPA, enrollment will be terminated and student given an Academic Contract then refer to Academic Counselor. • Academic Counselor are: Craig Prether, Gill Hill.

  42. In Conclusion Military members and dependents are required to: • Apply for Admission to LCC and complete the admission process • Apply on www.gibill.va.gov • Complete the additional paperwork and submit on-line application • Submit Intent Form each semester • Notify CO of any changes • Submit last date attendance for fail grades • Contact VA national call center at: 888-442-4551 question or concerns
