  8. 5 mins by yourself (no talking)

  9. Talk to your friend • Add ideas to your notes

Contention (contagious) • Respond to the topic with a contention. • Do • Make sure you have big ideas in your contention • Make sure it clearly responds to the question • Make sure it packs a punch as the it’s the first thing the reader sees • Don’t • Reword the question • Limit yourself to one side of the argument

  12. Group your arguments (Grinning Appeals) • Go back to your brainstorm. What ideas fit together? • What are your strongest arguments? How can you best support your conclusion? • How many main points do you have? These become your paragraphs/topic sentences….
