Yao Ming was born in 1980 in Shanghai. At 226 centimeters he is one of the tallest men in NBA. In 1998 he joined the Chinese national team. In the year 2000 Yao joined the All-Star Team of Asia. In 2005 Yao Ming was selected first in the NBA Draft by Houston. He scored 19 points in his first game. He was coached by former NBA All-Star Patrick Ewing.
On July 20, 2011, Yao announced his retirement from basketball in a press conference in Shanghai. He cited injuries to his foot and ankle, including the third fracture to his left foot sustained near the end of 2010. He plays well and he also cares about charity. He has a wonderful mixture of talent, dedication, humanitarian aspirations and a sense of humor.
Liu Xiang became the champion of male 110m hurdles at 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. It was Liu’s first Olympics and he won the gold medal. After that he became very famous in the world. Almost all the Chinese are proud of him. Liu Xiang is always energetic.
When he was a Grade Four student in a primary school, he was chosen by the junior sports school to practice jumping. In 1998 Liu Xiang, aged 15, met the famous coach Sun Haiping. Sun believed Liu Xiang was a rising star and he let Liu practice the 110m hurdles.
He didn’t take part in 2008 Beijing Olympics because of a broken foot. In March 2010, he took part in Doha track and field competition and won the 7th in the 60 metres hurdles final.
On 24th November 2010, he won the championship of male 110m hurdles at Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games. In February 2010, he won the 3th in the 60 metres hurdles final at Dusseldorf and Karlsruhe.
In Liu's first competition of 2012, he was matched up against Dayron Robles at the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix and this time he won with an Asian record time of 7.41 seconds for the 60m hurdles. He was the favourite for the title at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships, but was beaten into second place by Aries Merritt and left with the silver medal.
In the outdoor season he set a 110m hurdles meet record at the Golden Grand Prix Kawasaki, then ran 12.97 seconds to win at his home nation 2012 IAAF Diamond League meet, the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix. This was his first run under 13 seconds since 2007 and he beat American’s David Oliver and Jason Richardson by some distance.
On June 2, 2012, Liu competed at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, USA in the 110m Hurdles. He won the race in a field that included Aries Merritt and David Oliver. His time was a new personal best of 12.87, tying the World Record.
In the 110 metre hurdles at the London Olympics in 2012, Liu Xiang has failed to finish a race in his second consecutive Olympics, after he fell over the first hurdle in the 110 metres event.
