  1. PKMzeta and Memory Manhasset Science Research Paris Thatos

  2. Need Long-term trend in acute drug-related deaths, 1985 - 2004 Percentage of People Experiencing a Mental Disorder in their Lives (Gotz, 2004) (Gallaher, 2007)

  3. Long Term Potentiation • The complex chemical processes that form long-term memories (Cook, 2006) • Many proteins are involved in LTP, specifically PKMzeta (Kanehisa, 1999)

  4. PKMζ (Protein Kinase M-Zeta) • Responsible for maintaining long-term potentiation (Ling, 2002) • The workings of PKMzeta are known to be disrupted by a peptide labeled ZIP (zeta inhibitory peptide)

  5. Literature Review • Peter Serano, Todd C. Sacktor • Used ZIP • Rats treated with ZIP forgot how to perform the water maze. (Morris, 2004)

  6. Do-ability • Model Organisms that incorporate PKMzeta include -Drosophila -Octopi -Aplysia
