Schools for Africa:THE GOALS Providing: • Improved classroom buildings and equipment • Safe water and improved sanitation facilities for girls and boys • Other facilities (e.g. play areas, libraries, etc.) • Life-skills education, including but not limited to HIV prevention, health, nutrition, hygiene and sanitation 6
Schools for Africa:THE GOALS • Teaching and learning materials • Community participation in school management • Trained teachers/facilitators/heads (in-service and pre-service training) to provide children with quality education and basic life skills 7
Schools for Africa:THE GOALS • Other interventions, including but not limited to health check-ups, immunization, and scholarships • A stimulating start in life to children below age five • Policy work to scale up CFS programs in all schools within the nation. (UNICEF, 2007) 8

Schools for Africa:YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE The UNICEF/U.S. Fund addresses the unique needs of children in the SFA campaign. While you cannot designate how your gift will be used or in what country it will go, you can feel secure that it is being used where it is needed the most. 11
Schools for Africa:YOUR DONATION MIGHT BE USED TO PROVIDE: • A learner kit for one student in Mozambique and Mali which contains a bag, stationery, mini atlas, and math tables ($10) • Learning materials for ten children in Zimbabwe and Malawi ($45) 12
Schools for Africa:YOUR DONATION MIGHT BE USED TO PROVIDE: • Three-day training workshop for a teacher in Rwanda benefiting about 1,200 children ($125) • Schools-in-a-box kit in Burkina Faso containing learning materials for 80 school children and includes transportation cost ($250) 13
Schools for Africa:YOUR DONATION MIGHT BE USED TO PROVIDE: • Special support/grant for 40 orphans in South Africa ($1500) • Installment of a safe water point in a school in Madagascar ($4800) • Construction of a classroom in Niger and a library in Ethiopia including equipping it with furniture and materials ($14,000) 14A
