  2. Description Signal processing using complex values is popular in communications, radar, DSP, and quantum computing - among other areas. This book presents the basics that will help you visualize these signals and build your intuition. As a modern reboot of DSP, it features extensive illustrations and MATLAB examples that demonstrate key concepts. The book begins with simple real values in modern times, as these are familiar to most RF engineers. Then, we journey back to the 1740's and discover how complex values became so useful in DSP. The first imaginary signal that we encounter only exists in our imagination and not in hardware or software - a unique presentation of the concept. With that understanding, we then journey back to the present day. Along the way, we visualize how complex values simplify our work in sampling, filtering, FFT's, IFFT's, and software defined radio.
