  3. SUBTERM 1: UNITS OF INSTRUCTION • Focus: unifying themes of life. • A lot of new terms, concepts and labs so attendance is very important. • Basic Inorganic Chemistry • Biochemistry • Cells & Cell Division • Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration

  4. SUBTERM 2: UNITS OF INSTRUCTION • Focus: energetics & application of concepts from the first half of the course • Molecular Structure & Function of DNA • Biotechnology (Amgen Lab series) • Genetics & Heredity • Evolution

  5. GRADES: Category Weights Late work will only be accepted TWO times through the end of the Term. *50% for all other late work*

  6. Grading Scale Need a “B-” or better to stay in the honors science track. I do not offer extra credit. Course grades will be determined by percent weights in 3 or 4 categories. Final grades will be based on the following percentages: 100 - 93 A 76 - 73 C 92 - 89 A- 72 - 69 C- 88 - 87 B+ 68 - 67 D+ 86 - 83 B 66 - 63 D 82 - 79 B- 62 - 59 D- 78 - 77 C+ 58 - 0 F NO EXTRA CREDIT

  7. Homework • Assigned on a regular basis • Time should be spent each night reviewing the work of the day and the past week • Not possible to only prepare for these exams the night or two before • Reason for mini quizzes &chapter quizzes before the unit test

  9. What Can You Do At Home To Help? • Have students do homework before social time/ computer time • Encourage study sessions and/or Science Center • Take an interest • E-mail/Call me with questions and/or concerns • DONATIONS: WE NEED TISSUES PLEASE!!

Science Center • Open every day at lunch & Wednesday right after school (12:40pm) • Open M-Th after school • Peer tutors were selected from a pool of applicants and they have all successfully taken honors Biology • They know what content is emphasized • Students can sign up online with a particular tutor • It’s Free!
