TITLE: INFERTILITY PATIENTS’ KNOWLEDGE OF THE EFFECTS OF OBESITY ON REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH OUTCOMES
INTRODUCTION • Obesity is an important concern in the health of women. • The association between increased weight and cardio-metabolic disease is widely recognized. • It also plays an important role in the development of reproductive disorders by increasing the risk of infertility, breast cancer and endometrial cancer.
MATERIALS & METHODS • Research design: Prospective survey design. • Setting: Reproductive endocrinology and infertility clinic at Northwestern Memorial hospital in U.S. • Population: Female infertility patients. • Sampling technique: Convenience sampling.
MATERIALS & METHODS • Sample size 150 females. • Instruments used: • Rapid Estimate of Adult Literacy in Medicine – Short Form (REALM_SF) • Questionnaire on health risks of obesity. • Standardized scale for measuring height and weight.
MATERIALS & METHODS • Inclusion criteria: • Participation was restricted to English-speaking. • Non-pregnant women between the ages of 18 and 45 years.
