GCSE Science Science courses at GCSE are all with the exam board AQA The courses followed in Year 11 include: Biology 4401 Chemistry 4402 Physics 4403 Additional Science 4408 Further Additional Science 4410 Each course is the equivalent to 1 GCSE. Students on the Additional Science course and some Separates Students achieved 1 GCSE in Science in Year 10 (Core science or fast track groups)
Separate Science - B, P and C is examined in.. May/June 2017 (Biology 1, 2 and 3, Chemistry 1, 2 and 3 and Physics 1, 2 and 3) Separate Science - Additional, Further A is examined in June 2017 (Biology 2 and 3, Chemistry 2 and 3 and Physics 2 and 3) Additional Science is examined in.. June 2017 (Biology 2, Chemistry 2 and Physics 2) Examinations
All examinations are 60 minutes in duration • Each exam is worth 25% of the final GCSE (all students will take 3 exams per course) • Students can take Higher tier papers (A*- D) or Foundation tier papers (C – G) • Controlled assessments make up the last 25%. These are carried out in school under controlled conditions and will be completed early in the Spring term • It is essential that students attend their Science Controlled Assessment day, as this is the only opportunity to complete this section of the GCSE Science course Examinations and Assessment
The AQA website for past papers is a useful resource and this website also has the specifications for the content required • BBC Bitesize GCSE Science has been updated to include the new content • Any Science revision guide that contains the courses for examination from 2014 is appropriate. CGP seemed to be the most user friendly • Revision/intervention sessions will be hosted by the Science Department after school and all year 11 additional classes should complete the content for all but one unit by Christmas. 50% of lessons will then be intervention focussing on exam technique.
