The Research & Innovation Perspective (in ICT) The Added Value of the Gender DimensionDr. Joachim Schaper, VP AGT Research
Setting the Scene: • Engineering and management capacities for ICT Industry is below the market needs • Share of Women in Research and Innovation for ICT is low compared to potential • Basic Education provides the ground work (Math. and Sciences need to be reemphasized) • To few women develop their educational career thru university and polytechnic institutes towards a Master or PhD
Unleashing the Potential • Women should support women • Special support programs in ICT R&D (e.g. mentoring of academic development by senior management in industry – such as Software Campus in Germany) • Mandatory KPI for universities to increase % of women in Master and PhD studies (create an incentive system for the universities)
Unleashing the Potential (cont.) • Build management communities in Industry to support Women in ICT (e.g. from „girls day“ to PhD awards) • Develop a European Strategy build on national initiatives (make it a political imperative and reflect it within the FP8)
