What’s Your Peace? Helping students find their Path to Purpose through Individual and Group Service Learning Projects
The Path to Purpose Helping Students find purpose in their life. • What is missing? A wholehearted dedication to an activity or interest that stems from a serious purpose, a purpose that can give meaning and direction to life and can help others.
Steps Involved- IRP3 • 1. Idea • 2. Research • 3. Plan • 4. Prepare • 5. Present
Idea • Brainstorm as a class or with your family ideas that you think you would like to explore. • Think about things that may be personal to you or that you feel strongly about. • Pick that idea and move on to Step 2.
Research • Go online and find out as much as you can about your topic. • Keep a folder with notes or articles that you have copied on your topic. • Try to narrow down your search (ie. Senior Citizens- people who live in nursing homes- women who live in nursing homes).
Plan • Design your plan. • Come up with several ideas because some may not be possible to accomplish. Choose a range (ie. Something you can do at home by yourself or something you can do at home with friends or some- thing you can do by yourself at an outside location, or something you can do at an outside location with friends, etc.)
Prepare • Keep a log (see attached) of at home hours spent researching, volunteering, interviewing, and working on the project. • You need at least 10 hours over the next 6 months. • Work on the Project Teamwork Plan, Presentation Plan form, and Presentation Day Check- list with your group-mates.
Present • Students will make individual or group presentations to an audience • The presentation will include an artifact • The artifact can be anything which shows how you were able to make a difference (ie. Powerpoint, chart, brochure, poster, video, photo diary, skit, comic strip, any use of technology).
