Typesof Courses UUniversity Preparation Courses - Designed to meet entrance requirements for university programs (ENG4U0) CCollege Preparation Courses - Designed to prepare students to meet the requirements for college programs (ENG4C0)
Typesof Courses -continued MUniversity/College Preparation Courses - Designed to prepare students to meet the entrance requirements for both university and college programs (AWQ4M0 and TGJ4M0) OOpen Level Courses - Appropriate for all students - Usually elective courses (PAL4OM ) EWorkplace Preparation Courses - Appropriate for students entering the workplace only (MEL3E0 and MEL4E0)
University Pathway Students must have sixgrade 12 (U) or (M) level courses to qualify for general university admission. Specific courses or prerequisites will vary depending on the university program Examples: ENG4U0 or BOH4M0 Students should investigate grade 12 course prerequisites before selecting courses Research now: www.electronicinfo.ca or www.myBlueprint.ca Attend university presentations in lecture hall in the fall Gather university guide books (in guidance) and check websites Visit the universities
College Pathway Students need six grade 11 and 12 courses offered at the open (O), college (C), university/college level (M), or university (U) for diplomas or certificates. College degrees require six grade 12 U or M courses Marks of 65% or higher are typically required for admission. Each program varies. May also require additional admission information, such as a portfolio, interview or an audition Do the research now www.ontariocolleges.ca or myBlueprint.ca. Specialized Programs • Enhanced Program * Grade 12 Requirement – Must select at least one course offered at the enhanced level, example ENG4UE (need 10 for certificate) • Extended French Program * Grade 12 Requirement – Must take FEF4U0 and may take HZT4UX (need 7 for certificate) * Must already be in program to select these course(s)
Sports Specialist High Skill’s Major...pending approval • Grade 11 and 12 courses that focus on a Sports related career while earning an OSSD • Supports all pathways • University, College, Workplace, Apprenticeship • Bundled Credits • 8-10 courses (sports related courses or have Contextualized Learning Activities) • Certificates/Training (AED, First Aid, CPR, WHIMIS, etc…) • Includes experiential learning (job shadow & co-op)
Cooperative Education Earn up to four credits at the work placement while getting hands on instruction from an expert. Authentic work experience for all students (College, University, Apprenticeship - Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program or OYAP). Credits can be used for college admission. To select Co-op, choose course code COP4XC and submit a separate application (available in guidance or online) to the co-op teacher.
Changing Levels Students requiring a program level change (i.e. ENG3C0 to ENG4U0 or ENG3U0 to ENG4C0) are advised to make an appointment with their Guidance Counsellor to review prerequisite requirements and also post secondary pathways.
Choosing Your Courses Research all of their options carefully Talk to teachers who teach the course Attend our Course Selection Fair on Friday, February 14th Talk to students who have taken the course Get information regarding workload and the type of projects they will do (any presentations?) Select courses in which likely to experience success Have a back-up plan Pay attention to post-secondary program requirements
Accessing the Online Course Selection Program Course Selection will be done through www.myBlueprint.ca (new this year). Link is on LPSS website. Plan now. SUBMIT during February 15 to February 23 only.
Confirming Your Choices Students will SUBMIT and PRINT their Course Selection during February 15-23. Parents willreview courses and signthe form. Return the signed Course Selection form to the homeroom teacher.
COMPUTER DRIVEN WAIT LISTS • Wait lists are created according to the date you make your course selections • This is done automatically through the Peel Board course selection program.
Course Changes Changed your mind? Changes may be made anytime before June 1st (This means for any reason!) Changes will be permitted based on course availability and students will need to meet with their counsellor to make any changes "Change of mind" changes will notbedone in September
Valid Reasons for September Course Changes The only timetable changes that will be done in September are for students who have problems such as: - a course conflicts with another course - a result of summer school - a course failure - an unforeseen health issue
Courses Taken Outside LPSS It is recommended that you do not select a course for which you plan to take outside of LPSS.
