What is ACHIEVE? Action Communities for Health, Innovation and EnVironmental ChangE A national partnership that provides training and technical assistance to empower communities to findlocal solutions and to take local action with population impact.

Examples of Community Strategies that support healthy lifestyles and healthy communities • Increasing healthy food choices in community settings. • Increasing farmers markets, fresh fruits and vegetables, and community gardens for residents • Installing sidewalks and countdown cross signals in neighborhoods. • Reinforcing school foods services to include more fruits and vegetables and whole grain foods.
Examples of Strategies that support healthy lifestyles and healthy communities: • Increasing attractive and safe locations for physical activity. • Providing adequate physical education for all students throughout the school year • Increasing opportunities for physical activity before, during, and afterschool for physical activity. • Implementing worksite wellness programs that encourage healthy behaviors and provide preventive health benefits.
Successes ‘Where they live’ Healthy Communities Community members now live in communities with Complete Streets policies in place Bike racks have been added to communities, allowing community members to chose biking over driving People have better access to fresh fruits and vegetables because their local farmers markets accept senior and WIC vouchers
Successes ‘Where they learn’ Healthy Schools Students: Can safely walk to school because their communities have implemented Safe Routes to School efforts Are receiving an extra 50 minutes of physical activity weekly Now attend schools that have “active recess”
Successes ‘Where they work’ Healthy Worksites Employees: Have healthier items to chose from in the vending machines at work Have indoor and/or outdoor walking paths where they can safely be physically active Are protected from second-hand smoke
