  2. Recap • God created all things, universe, the Earth, creatures and plants. • He created Humans, male and female. • He created the first man and woman, Adam & Eve.

  3. The Fall of Man

  4. We are HERE in God’s Great Story

  5. The Garden of Eden Genesis 2:8 – 9: “And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.”

  6. The Garden of Eden God’s Instruction to Adam: (Genesis 2:16 – 17): “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

  7. War in Heaven • God also created all spirits & Angels. • Led by one called Satan, some Angels wanted to over-throw God. • There was a war in Heaven. • God cast Satan and his followers out of Heaven to Earth. (Revelation 12:7 – 9)

  8. Satan Deceives Genesis Ch:3:1-6 (Read) • (V1): The Evil One appears to Eve as a serpent (snake). • (V3 - 5): Satan persuades Eve she will not die, and questions God’s authority. • (V6): Deceived and desiring to become wise, Eve ate the forbidden fruit. • Eve gave the fruit to Adam to eat.

  9. The Results of The Sin Genesis 3:7-14 (Read) • Adam & Eve become aware of their nakedness. • God discovers their disobedience. • God curses the serpent.

  10. The Results of The Sin Genesis 3:15-24 (Read) • Adam & Eve are cast out of the Garden, never to return. • Because they know good and evil, they are forced to eat the “herb of the field” and “bread”. • They will eventually die. • This sin is the legacy for all Men.

  11. The Results of The Sin • This is the Original Sin. • Man is fallen in the sight of God. (Genesis 3)

  12. What This Means for Us • Man did this for his own pleasure and desires. • Since that time, Man is separated from God. • Man turned his back on God. • We can no longer walk or talk with God. • We all know and do evil (commit sins).

  13. What This Means for Us • Sin – made us hurt each other. Gen 3:12,16) • Sin – hurt the world (Gen 3:17–19). • Sin – ruined their relationship with God (Gen 3:10, 22-24).

  14. What This Means for Us See how bad sin is? • It leads us to death (of the body) and eternal agony in Hell. • DON’T WORRY! God has a plan to fix things. • God said that the descendant (seed) of the woman will “bruise his head, and thou shalt bruise his heel”. (Genesis 3:15). • What does this mean?

  15. What This Means for Us The answer is near the end of God’s Story, so please…. Be Patient!

  16. The Flood – Judgement & Rescue

  17. Judgement Genesis Chapters 6-9 • Many centuries pass and Man spread throughout the world. • Man’s evil and wickedness grew so very much (Genesis 6:5, 11-12). • God planned to Judge the world.

  18. Judgement Imagine some fruit that has bad spots: • Can you cut out the bad spots? • What if it is rotten right through? • We are that rotten fruit. • This is how God sees us. • We are bad because:- • Our thoughts are bad. • We don’t love God.

  19. Judgement Because of the wickedness of Man, God decided…. Genesis 6:7: And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

  20. Judgement Genesis 6:8-10: But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

  21. Judgement Noah: • A good man who walked with God (Genesis 6:9) • God recognises that Noah is the only man righteous in his sight (Genesis 7:1)

  22. Judgement God told Noah to build an ark, and fill it with all the creatures of the earth, two of each kind. (Genesis 6:14-19)

  23. Judgement Genesis 6:17: And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. God told Noah how he would destroy the wicked an evil people. He would flood the entire earth.

  24. Then the rain came… Genesis 7:11-12

  25. Judgement …. And everything on dry land died, except for Noah, his family and the animals inside the ark. (Genesis 7:19-21)

  26. Water covered the highest hills Rain and flood stopped after 40 days

  27. Rescue Genesis 8:1-14 (Read) • God remembers Noah. • The waters reduce. • The Earth dries. • Noah and his family are SAVED!

  28. Noah is saved!

  29. God’s Promise!

  30. This is where we are up to in God’s Story

  31. Promise! Genesis 11:1-9 (Read) – The Tower of Babel • Hundreds of years pass. • Man continues in his evil and wicked ways. • Built a great tower to show his self-pride. • Men all speak one language. • God sees their arrogant pride. • God causes them to speak different tongues and they left the tower and spread across the Earth.

  32. Promise! • God remembers His plan to save man. • He chooses Abram – descendant of Noah (through Noah’s son Shem). • He speaks to Abram – and makes an amazing promise to him.

  33. Promise! Genesis 12:1-3 “Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”

  34. Promise! This is the first part of God’s promise (or covenant) with Abram: “And I will make of thee a great nation….and in thee shall all families of the Earth be blessed”

  35. Promise! But there was a BIG problem for Abram…. • He had no son! His wife Sarai was barren and now very old! • So how could he be the start of the “Great Nation” if he had no children? • We shall see soon!

  36. Promise! Genesis 17:1-10 (Read) • Years passed – Abram now 90 years old. • God came to him again and reminded him of his promise. • God changed his name to Abraham. • God gave the land of Canaan to Abraham as “an everlasting covenant”. • And also to his “seed”

  37. Promise! The “Seed” of Abraham Genesis 17:7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

  38. Promise! The “Seed” of Abraham Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

  39. Promise! The Apostle Paul’s Meaning: • The “seed” promised to Abraham was not only to be a great nation, but also a spiritual people, which came about through the life and sacrifice of Jesus the Christ. • Not just a promise of the small area called Canaan, but a bigger “country” for his believers.

  40. Promise! Abraham’s Line: • Sarai (Now called Sarah – “Princess”) was over 90 years old and the Lord visited her and she conceived a son (Genesis 21:1-2). • God had said the child would be called Isaac. • God would make the same promises to Isaac as were made to his father Abraham (Genesis 17:19).

  41. Next Time… We will look at how the descendants of Abraham became slaves to the Pharoh (king) of Egypt. We will see how God moved to save his people and begin to teach them new ways.

  42. For next time – please read: Genesis chapters 37 - 50
