Reaping the Benefits $1.7 Billion Supported by the IndianaMap Scope of Indiana Projects Statewide: 41% 75% Multi County: 34% County: 16% City or Smaller: 9%
Reaping the Benefits • “Who’s Your Legislator” Application (statewide) • Address Points • Administrative Boundaries • State Police Computer Aided Dispatch (statewide) • Address Points • Centerlines with address ranges • Broadband Service Availability Map (statewide) • Address Points • Parcels • Administrative Boundaries
Broadband Service Availability Map • Purpose: to identify areas that are not served or are underserved. • Requested Budget Line Items: • $215,000 for the IndianaMap portal at IGS • $76,000 for the IndianaMap portal at UITS • $185,500 for IGIC • $220,000 for Orthophotography • $1.3 million for county data sharing
Orthophotography Program Dollars “in-hand”: $ 100,000 IDHS $ 600,000 IDEM $ 100,000 Other State Agencies $ 100,000 USGS $ 220,000 ARRA Broadband Project $1,120,000 Total w/o county participation Goal: Begin 2’ resolution program in 2010 with county “buy-up” and state payback options.
Data Sharing Guidance • Indiana Public Access Counselor’s informal advisory opinion (http://www.in.gov/pac/informal/files/Informal_Inquiry_09-INF-5_regarding_electronic_maps.pdf) • GIS data are public records – we can’t deny a request (but we can charge) • We can’t license GIS data or limit downstream use • Santa Clara County, CA (http://www.directionsmag.com/article.php?article_id=3278) “Decisions from both the California Superior Court and the California Court of Appeal clearly affirmed that public agencies must provide their geodata in accordance with the PRA [Public Records Act].”
