What’s/Where’s/When’s Camp Oljato • Camp Oljato is a BSA approved Summer Camp on Lake Huntington near Fresno in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. • It provides a spectacular waterfront, shooting ranges (archery, rifles, shotguns), a nature/scout craft area, rock climbing, and many other opportunities. • We are going July 24th to July 30th
It is All About… • The Outdoors!
And it starts with a boat ride • Drive 5 hours to Oljato parking lot; Take boat to camp; boats run between 12:30 and 3 pm
Typical Schedule at Oljato Schedule of Events • 7:00 a.m. Reveille • 7:25 Assembly Bell • 7:30 Morning Assembly and Flag Ceremony. Breakfast follows. • 8:30 Mandatory SPL Meeting at the Program Office • 9:00 Merit Badge Session One begins • 9:30 Informational Scoutmaster Meeting at the Oljato Pine • 10:30 Merit Badge Session Two begins • 12:00 p.m. Lunch is served • 2:00 Merit Badge Session Three begins • 3:30 Free Time – Have Fun! Visit different program areas and participate in their • special activities, work on other merit badges, or just relax. • 5:30 Free Time ends. Regroup at your campsite and prepare for dinner assembly. • 5:55 Assembly Bell • 6:00 Dinner Assembly and Flag Ceremony • 8:00 Special Program Events • 10:00 Taps.
Special Scheduled Events at Oljato Opening campfire on Sunday night by camp staff Oljato Songfest on Monday night Troop cooking for breakfast, lunch & dinner on Wed Star Floats on lake after dark Monday and Wed “Olympicade” troop relay competition on Thursday • including sailing, swimming, shotgun, nature, handicraft, canoeing, dodge ball, COPE and more! Closing campfire on Friday night put on by troops
Oljato’s Waterfront Oljato is known as one of the best small boat sailing camps in the country. At this camp, scouts have arrive via boating across the lake. Many activities at the camp revolve around the water. Possible Merit Badges: Canoeing Lifesaving Motorboating Sailing Swimming Rowing Possible Awards: BSA Lifeguard Training BSA Snorkel Program Mile Swim Advanced Sailing Safe Swim Defense (for adult training)
Scout Craft/Nature Areas The Scout Craft and Nature Areas have many interesting activities such as Fishing, Trail to First Class, Tool Safety and an Overnight Hike (for all 1st year scouts) Possible Merit Badges: Art Leatherwork Basketry Environmental Science Fish and Wildlife Management Soil and Water Conservation Forestry Indian Lore Mammal Study Music Orienteering Pioneering Weather Woodcarving
Shooting Ranges The shooting ranges at any camp are important, and Oljato’s is no different. With Archery, Trapshooting, and Shotgun Ranges, you’re shooting experience will be a blast! Possible Merit Badges: Archery Rifle Shotgun
Prices • Youth: $355 for a week • Adults: $165 for a week • $50 dollars by February 17th meeting • Final Payment due by March 24th meeting • If we meet these deadlines, then 2 leaders go free • Otherwise deposit of $100 is due March 24 and final the 2nd meeting in April
