All About Me • 15th year in Chagrin Falls, all in 4th grade • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Master’s Degree in Reading Instruction • Married for 8 years • 3 boys, Kian (7 yrs.), Kylan (4 yrs.), Declan (17 mo.) • Interests include my family, exercising, decorating, watching sports, reading (when I have time!), and the beach!
Philosophy of Education • Differentiated instruction that provides children with learning opportunities that are personalized to various learning styles and levels • Content aligned with the Common Core
Morning Activities • Routine • Bellwork: practice pages, handwriting
Writing Workshop • Literacy By Design program • Includes key elements of writing: writing forms, organizational patterns, writing traits, writing process • Mini-lessons used to teach specific skills • Individual conferencing (differentiated)/peer editing • Publishing (Chromebooks) • Supplemented by my own writing projects that follow key elements, rubric system for scoring • Journal writing • Spelling (D.S.A. given to determine groups), 2-week cycle • Assessment: spelling, writing projects, skill-based assignments
Literacy by Design program Understanding text by using specific strategies Modeled, shared, group, and independent reading Fluency and comprehension Emphasis on vocabulary acquisition Reading log/Ongoing Test Practice Reading level determined by STARS Guided Reading: differentiated based on student needs Reading Workshop

Club 45 • 45 minutes, daily • Placement is fluid, students can come and go into different tiers based on data-driven weekly teacher meetings • Explicit, differentiated instruction based on student needs
Homework • Monday-Thursday • Planners and website • Reading: 60 minutes of reading a week (reading log with signature), and occasional Ongoing Test Practice page • Spelling • Math: practice, studying for tests • Social Studies/Science: occasional skill practice • Homework Club
Snacks and Birthday Treats • Children need healthy, peanut-free snacks daily • Water bottles are permitted • Birthdays are celebrated in 4thgrade, please send in non-edible snacks for the class if you choose
Grading Information • Graded work sent home in Take-Home folders • Infinite Campus (online grading program) updated periodically
