  1. Governor’s Honors Program 2012-2013

  2. What is GHP? • The Georgia Governor's Honors Program (GHP) is a six-week summer residential instructional program (four weeks in 2013) designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. Activities are designed to provide each participant with opportunities to acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to become independent, life-long learners.  The Georgia Governor's Honors Program is fully-funded by the Georgia General Assembly, and operates at no cost to the participant. Rising juniors and seniors in Georgia's public and private high schools, and students enrolled in home school may be nominated by their teachers.

  5. Candidates • Students Nominated must be current (on track)10thor 11th graders • Demonstrate high aptitude and high interest in the area of nomination • May be nominated for district interviews in only one subject area • Must have PSAT or SAT data (can take to state interview) • Must have positive teacher recommendations • Must complete the state nomination form (if attending county level interviews) • Must commit to full participation in the GHP program • Check the descriptions for each area for specific requirements

  6. Notable Changes • The Student Nomination Form is available with the three parts divided into separate files. • You do not indicate whether a student is a 10th or 11th grader on the Nomination Form; rather, you verify that the student will be a rising junior/senior in June 2013. • The AgScience interview process has changed. Details can be found in the Description & Criteria. • AgSciencenominees no longer send a portfolio to the GHP office with the nomination form. See the Description & Criteria for details. • There are only 2 weekends for state interviews • GTID # is required on the nomination spreadsheet • The SAT is on a state interview date: be sure your nominated students do not sign up for that SAT date
