  3. There are five yamas and five Niyamas. Samantha Rufle

Ahimsa- showing compassion to all living things. • Satya- a commitment to truthfulness. • Asterya- take nothing that doesn’t belong to us. • Brahamacharya- to avoid manipulating others. • Aparigraha- to take only what we need. The Yamas are the ethical concepts that show a yogi how to move and interact with the world. All they do is give suggested ways to be compassionate to our fellow man and the planet. Sauca- means purity and cleanliness. • Santosha- is contentment with what one has. • Tapas- is the heat generated by the body. • Svadhyaya- means self study. • Isvarapranaidhana is to acknowledge the creator. The Niyamas are the rules for how a yogi is to take care of themselves. There are five Niyamas. These cover thought, which might be expected, and they cover how to take care of the physical body. Physical health and mental health can aid or be a barrier to finding the truth. The Niyamas exist to remove those barriers. The Niyamas Samantha Rufle
