  2. What is Satire • A literary work that ridicules its subject through the use of techniques such as: • Exaggeration (overstatement, overemphasis) • reversal • incongruity (not in harmony, oddness, inappropriateness) • Parody In order to make a comment or criticism about it.

  3. Examples of Satire • DE motivational posters- satirizes motivational posters

  4. Exaggeration • To enlarge, increase, or represent something beyond normal bounds so that it becomes ridiculous and its faults can be seen.

  5. Incongruity • To present things that are out of place or are absurd in relation to its surroundings

  6. Reversal • To present the opposite of the normal order (e.g., the order of events, hierarchical order).

  7. Parody • To imitate the techniques and/or style of some person, place, or thing.

  8. Types of Satire • Horatian: amusing satire • Juvenalian: bitter and shocking satire • Caricatures: cartoons where prominent features are exaggerated and distorted

  9. EEKK Activity • Duration – 5 Minutes • Topic - You will discuss your gained understanding and knowledge of Satire which you have developed thus far this lesson. Remember – It is eye to eye, knee to knee and when your fellow classmate is talking, you are listening!!
