  1. Family and Prayer You can't learn how to sail from a book...  likewise, you can’t learn to pray from a book. We yearn for prayer and also hide from it. We are attracted to it and we are repelled by it. We believe that prayer is something that we should do and even want to do, but it seems like there is a chasm between us, desiring to pray and actually praying

  2. Family and Prayer • Praying for our children is the duty of a godly parent. 1 Ch 29:19 : ‘Give my son Solomon the wholehearted desire to obey all your commands, decrees, and principles and to build this Temple……

  3. Family and Prayer Job 1:5………. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts. Prov11:21 evil people will be punished, but the children of the godly will go free

  4. Family and Prayer • Teach our children the power of being still before the Lord: Lk 10:41-2 “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Family and Prayer • Train our children at home to voice their faith in prayer Psalm3:4 I will ·pray [L lift my voice] to the Lord, and He will answer me from His holy mountain  Eph 5:19 …speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord

  6. Family and Prayer • Teach them early that Prayer will lead them to resources for testing times Matt 21:22 - If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Psalm 50:15…call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me."

He will fight for you just as you saw him do in Egypt. (31) And you saw how the Lord your God cared for you again here in the wilderness, just as a father cares for his child. – Deut 1:29

  8. Family and Prayer Repeat the commandments again and again to our children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away on a journey, when you are lying down and when you are getting up again. Deut 6:7 Let us, then, feel very sure that we can come before god’s throne where there is grace. There we can receive mercy and grace to help us when we need it. Heb 4:16 … if you have no doubts in your mind and believe that what you say will happen, God will do it for you. Matt11:22

  9. Family and Prayer Prayers of the Praying Parent was answered. I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, father i have sinned against heaven, and before you and am no more worthy to be called your son: make me as one of your hired servants and he arose, and came to his father.
