Who vs. Whom? • Who and whom are relative pronouns • Who is only used when it is used as the subject of a sentence • Whom is used when it is used as the direct object of a sentence or the object of a preposition • If noun is object of a “to be” verb, the object operates as a nominative and who would be used instead of whom.
Rule of Thumb • If you can insert the word he, then you can use the pronoun “who” • If you can insert the word him, then you can use the pronoun “whom” • “M” is whom
