JHC at a Glance Mission The JHC is committed to regenerate the Johannesburg Inner City through the provision of quality, value for money accommodation and service for all who choose to live there, in a manner that is both sustainable and promotes growth Values JHC’s values listed in logical order are: Commitment, Teamwork, Excellence and Sustainability. We understand the need for Commitment and Teamwork to achieve Excellence and the need for Excellence to achieve Sustainability.

JHC at a Glance Tenant Community Profile • 52% of all tenants and dependents are women. • The applicants average age is 34 years old. • 36% of JHC’s children are between 3 – 7 years. • 28 % of all family types in the JHC are single: partner relationships and female single parents make up the next two majorities in most of the buildings. • 91% of all tenants are South African. • 49% of all tenants have a post-matric qualification. • 23% of all employed tenants work in services, 22% are professionals and 20% work in elementary occupations. • Overall, 22.5% of JHC’s tenants are unemployed (which falls below the latest official unemployment rate of 28.2%). • The average total income per unit is R4, 600. • Of the exiting tenants, the majority (57%) will be renting their next accommodation.

  6. JHC at a Glance Social Housing Partnerships • JHC is a member of the National Association of Social Housing Organizations (NASHO). • NASHO has 19 members across South Africa. • NASHO manages approximately 35 000 units. • NASHO provides accommodation to between 70 000 and 100 000 people.
