SDUSD 1 to 1 Laptop Goals The San Diego Unified (i21) Interactive Classroom is an engaging interconnected learning environment designed to optimize student access and participation by integrating audio, visual, mobile computing and formative assessment technologies across the curriculum.
What is LOGO? • Pilot program funded by the FCC to support off-campus wireless Internet connectivity for mobile learning devices. • 20 Districts in the nation were chosen • Connects students to the Internet anytime, anywhere to increase access to cutting-edge interactive learning tools • Builds on the ubiquitous i21 infrastructure and interactive classroom
What’s included? • Netbook with broadband access • Netbook bag with student ID • Charger • Filtered internet • Electronic textbooks • Software programs including those for word processing, video editing, creating flipcharts, and electronic notebooks. All are compatible with District infrastructure and supported by the IT Dept.
Connecting to Broadband • Students logon to netbooks using their District ID and password • Students use the school wireless while on campus and broadband wireless while off campus
Syncing on the District Network • Students must SHUTDOWN their computer at the end of the school day • Students must SHUTDOWN their computer before going to school
The Importance of Charging • Students must charge their netbooks every night to ensure they are ready for school the next day
Technical Support • Students will receive technical support at school when needed.
Netbook Loan Agreement • Report problems immediately • Netbooks are expected to be returned in good condition • Report loss or theft within 10 days
Netbook Use Agreement • Based on District Acceptable Use Policy • Reviewed with students in all i21 classrooms: • Expectations • General Use • Access • Computer Care
LOGO Roll-Out Plan • Early October (first or second week) • 6th Grade classrooms will have arranged visits to the Library for the Netbook checkout • Parent survey to be sent home with students after the issuance of the Netbooks • Wolf Tech class to support site technology issues/needs • If a Netbook is being serviced, a loaner may be given to the student • Each classroom also has 3 Thin Clients for student access
