  1. BUNIONS are a deformity of the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint at the base of the big toe.

  2. There are many things to look out for to determine if you have a bunion. Some, but not all, symptoms may include: - A swollen, bony bump on the outside edge of your foot where the big toe bone is located. - A noticeable, bony deformity by the MTP joint - Pain and swelling over your big toe joint - Callused and red skin by big toe area - Sore skin over the area where the bunion is

  3. There are a plethora of treatment options for bunions, falling into two categories: non-surgical and surgical. - Non-surgical treatments include taking painkillers, adding orthotics to your shoes, and incorporating bunion pads. These are the first steps of treatment to take. They are the least invasive and may do the trick. However, even though they will reduce the pain and bunion symptoms, they will not fix your foot's appearance. - Surgery would be the next option. The specificity of the surgery depends on the level of MTP joint deformity. What's also considered? How severe your symptoms are while considering your age and any other medical condition.

  4. When bunions are not treated, they lead to more issues, like arthritis and movement of your other toes.

  5. If you are suffering from bunions in Bolingbrook, please reach out to us at Suburban Foot & Ankle Associates so we can help you get rid of your pain!
