The responsibilities on the shoulders of parents are enormous. However, parents can turn these duties into immense opportunities to positively change society. They have great influence of what children will look like in the future. The adults of today were the children of yesterday and the children of today will be the adults of tomorrow. Childhood care and education should be taken seriously. There are a lot of things that parents can do to help children achieve including academic success. Some of the

B) Health Protectors The health of an individual is a highly priced asset that must be guarded jealously with at any stage in life. Health prosperity partly guarantees success in other aspects of life including academic success. Parents provide a valuable service to their families, communities, and humanity generally, when they protect the health of their children. The health of children can be enhanced by good nutrition, potable water, suitable clothing, adequate sleep duration, general hygiene, vector control and vaccination.

Parents should endeavor that their children acquire the following qualities early in life: good command of language, reasonable knowledge of mathematics, ability to think logically and make decisions, wise application of knowledge, capability to use computer system and the internet, willingness to learn from well-informed individuals, and ability to do research and source for information. Moreover, it is helpful to expose children to entrepreneurial skill including money, time, and people management.   4. D) Capacity Builders You can never give to others what you do not have. Whenever a person says or does something, it comes from what he has in the inside. The amount of quality knowledge you possess will determine the level of success you will attain, if the knowledge is wisely applied. Parents can increase the capacity of their children by doing the following: 1) Compel children to read well-written wholesome books, magazines, newspapers and other related publications. 2) Ask children to write essays, speeches, Summaries, emails, formal and informal. And insist that children write legibly. 3) Make children take interest in sports especially tennis, soccer (football), golf and basketball to mention a few. 4) Encourage them to play leadership roles and practice public speaking during family activities. 5) Teach children a new language, which will be beneficial in the future. 6) Engage them in discussions that will encourage logical reasoning and effective communication. 7) Let them learn music and how to play musical instruments. 8) Teach children how to dress properly and maintain good health. E) Character Shapers Parents should take the shaping of children’s character seriously. Why? This is because well-trained children most often experience a high-level of peace in their lives, which they also extend to their parents and communities. It is of utmost importance that the virtues of patience, honesty, self-discipline, excellence and diligence must be instilled in children early in life.

F) Counselors and Motivators Everyone is born great and the attainment of that greatness demands discovery, direction, learning, motivation and practice. Every child is unique. First, discover the child’s natural endowments (talents), preferences, interests, and fields of passion. Second, make an informed tentative strategic plan for the child to join a profession. This plan is tentative because the child will be allow to make his own input when he becomes knowledgeable to do so. Third, is the continuous counselling and motivation to enable him achieve his full potential. The right child, right profession, and right environment is a wonderful combination for fulfillment. Love, peace and unity should be entrenched in the family system in order to ensure that children receive the material, financial, psychological and spiritual support required for success in life.
