  2. The major Function in the Respiratory System • The major function in the respiratory system is to supply the blood and other body systems with oxygen

  3. How the respiratory System works • When you inhale the lungs blow up like a balloon. Then the bronchi and the alveoli witch are ways from the lungs to the blood witch carries the oxygen from the lungs to the blood and the other body systems • Another function in the respiratory system is to clear out the what the body does not need like carbon dioxide.

  4. Possible Diseases • Emphysema is caused by smoking. • Lung cancer is a disease caused by uncontrollable cell growth in tissues. • Inflammatory lung disease is caused by a large neutrophil

  5. How to prevent diseases • Don’t smoke! • Eat Healthy!

Fun Facts • Your lungs have about 1,500 miles of airways • Bronchioles are about the same thickness as hair, • There are 600 million alveoli in your lungs, and if you stretched them out they could cover an entire tennis court. • Yawning brings extra oxygen in your lungs • Yawning also gets rid of carbon dioxide that may be getting up in the lungs • Children and women breath faster than men

  7. Our Questions about the respiratory system • Why does the lungs stop when you sneeze? Answer because your airways get cut off for a moment. • Why does your heart beat when you hold your breathe? Answer Because there is still a supply of oxygen eventually your heart will slow down and then stop. • What does the air you inhale go through? • Answer through the nasal passages and trachea
