What is hospital  There is no perfect definition of hospital as such.  In simple hospital is an institution where sick and injured patients are treated as in patient.  A hospital is an institution which is operated for the medical surgical and/or obstetric care of in-patients and licensed by appropriate authority i.e.. govt ., local body, MCI.(Directory of hospitals in India 1988)  Who defines hospital as “An integral part of a Social and Medical organization, the functions of which are to provide the population complete heath care, both curative and preventive with out patient services reaching out to the family in its own environment and also to carry out training of health workers/functionaries and Bio Social research”

  3. Objective of hospital  The purpose of the project is to create a pollution prevention tool for the assessment of a hospitals.  This tool categorizes the hospitals based on the wastes produced. Treatment methods used and suggests suitable remedial measures to be adopted by the hospitals to reduce the harmful effects of the wastes.  It awards an index to the hospitals which helps in understanding the different avenues for improvement.  It provides cleaner alternative and also easily compares the sustainability of one hospital with other.
