Purpose The Purpose of Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society shall be to function as an honor and professional society for students of the biological sciences. Its activities shall be designed to stimulate interest, scholarly attainment, and investigation in the biological sciences, and to promote the dissemination of information and new interpretations among students of the life sciences.
About Tri-Beta Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) is a society for students, particularly undergraduates, dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. Since its founding in 1922, more than 175,000 persons have been accepted into lifetime membership, and more than 430 chapters have been established throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
Benefits • Regular Membership is for LIFE! • Members can receive several awards and scholarships for research. • Members can publish their research in the official Tri-Beta Journal- BIOS
Types of Membership • Regular Members- Undergraduate Biology Majors (Bachelor of Sciences with a major in Biology, Bachelor of Arts with a major in Biology, or Bachelor of Arts with a major in Biology with grades 8th-12th certification) who have completed 3 full semesters at TAMIU • Associate Members- Anyone who is not a Biology major, has not yet completed the 3 semesters required, or does not meet the GPA requirements for regular membership • Graduate Members- Graduate students pursuing a degree in the life sciences or faculty members actively involved in the biological sciences • Honorary Members- Individuals who are recognized by the chapter for their significant accomplishments as a biologist or outstanding service to the chapter
GPA Requirments • For regular membership only: Sophomore Standing (45 hours) 3.5 Biology GPA Junior Standing (70 hours) 3.25 Biology GPA Senior Standing (90 hours) 3.0 Biology GPA
Other Stuff We Do • Fundraisers- Car washes, hot dog sales, etc. • Bone Marrow Drive • Future Scientists of South Texas • Science Olympiad • Camping Trip • Visits to Medical, Dental, and Graduate Schools
