Biological Contaminants • Biological contaminants are living or once living organisms. • Indoor biological contaminants Includes: Bacteria, molds, mildew, viruses, animal dander and cat salvia, house dust mites, cockroaches, and pollen. • Effects: • allergic reactions • asthma • diseases such as influenza, measles, and chicken pox • Sneezing, watery eyes, coughing, dizziness • To help prevent: Install exhaust fans and clean the house
Cryptosporidium • Protozoan that can cause Gastro-Intestinal illness with diahrrea in humans. • The organism most commonly isolated in HIV positive patients presenting with diahrrea. • Treatment is symptomatic with fluid rehydration, electrolyte correction, and management of any pain.
Shigella • It was a rod-shaped bacteria. • It is natually found in humans and apes. • Causes: • Touching your mouth • Eating contaminated foods • Swallowing contaminated water • Treatment : Antibiotics
