Programme Objectives 1. 2. 3. To promote and reinforce the contribution of VT to the process of innovation, with a view to improving competitiveness & entrepreneurship To improve skills and competences of people, especially young people, in initial vocational training To improve the quality of and access to continuing vocational training and life-long learning
Participating Countries • The 25 Member States of the European Union • The EFTA countries participating in the European Economic Area (EEA)Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein • The pre-accession countries:Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey • Switzerland as a silent partner (actions self-financed by Swiss Gov’t)
Leonardo da Vinci • Who can submit a proposal? • Private, public and semi- public organisations • Individuals not eligible to apply • A project can only be submitted ONCE in a programme year
Ineligible Placements • European institutions • Organisations which manage Community programmes • National organisations - embassies/consulates, cultural institutions and regional or national representations • In most countries: language teaching placements (in schools) – definition of “undertaking” (Council decision)
New call - programme priorities 2005/06 • Promoting transparency of qualifications • Developing the quality of VET systems and practices • Developing relevant and innovative e-learning content Each application must address only ONE priority
New call – priorities mobility Preference will be given to projects specifying the following elements: • Linguistic and cultural preparation • Objectives, content and duration of placement • Pedagogical organisation, tutoring and mentoring • Validation of the competencies acquired in the training placement
The new Integrated Programme Life Long Learning (2007-2013)Main priorities for a new Erasmus • Mobility (students and teaching staff) decentralised • Bologna (projects to support strategy) centralised
Mobility : Placements & exchanges • Student placements in enterprises- alternating schemes during studies- traineeships after graduation • Exchanges of staff : teaching and administrative staff, managers of companies, etc.
Mobility • General mobility : students 3-12 months and teachers 1-8 weeks • Special mobility : students in Joint Masters and teachers for long term teaching assignments • Mobility in co-operation with enterprises : placements (students) and exchanges (staff)
Student placement Mobility • Student rates 500 Euro/month (different to general student mobility) • Strand student placements to foster Higher education-enterprise co-operation • 210.000 placements for the overall programme • 30.000 /year all over Europe
