Ottoman Empire • Location- Asia Minor/Turkey • Largest Extent of the Empire-Southwest Asia, Southeastern Europe, North Africa • The Development of the Empire • 1st- capital Constantinople changed to Istanbul • 2nd- Islam became unifying force • 3rd- Trade coffee and ceramics
Mughal • Location- North India • Contributions: • 1st- Spread of Islam into India • 2nd- Art and Architecture- Taj Mahal • 3rd-Indian textiles influenced the British textiles industry • Remember- Portugal , England and the Netherlands competed for the Indian Ocean trade ports. Africa 1st- European nations established trading port throughout Africa’s coast 2nd - Slaves, Gold and Ivory were exported out using the Triangle Trade system 3rd - Africa imported manufactured goods from Europe, Asia and the Americas 4th Africa also imported new food products such as corn and peanuts
China 1st Creation of foreign enclaves to control trade 2nd which allowed China to control foreign influences and trade 3rd -Increase in European demand for Chinese goods, such as tea and porcelain
Japan 1st Japan had powerless emperors ruled by military leaders, called shoguns 2nd Adopted a policy of isolation to limit foreign influences 3rd Merchants were not valued within Japanese society
Commercial Revolution • The expansion of trade and business that transformed European economies during the 16th and 17th centuries • It included Mercantilism- An economic practice adopted by European colonial powers in an effort to become self- sufficient. It was based on the theory that colonies existed for the benefit of the mother country.
