Graduation Requirements for Students Entering High School in 2014-2015 and thereafter • Required for consideration for automatic admission to Texas public universities • Expectation for all incoming 9th-grade students • Distinguished Level of Achievement Including an endorsement 26 credits including Algebra II • Multidisciplinary Studies • STEM • Business & Industry • Public Services • Arts & Humanities • Foundation High School Program • Including an endorsement 26 credits Foundation High School Program22 credits • Required for graduation along with passing 5 EOC exams

  3. What is an Endorsement? • A program of study that reflects students’ interests

  4. Multidisciplinary Studies Endorsement • Allows students to select courses from multiple areas • Focuses on the four foundation subject areas, Advanced Placement courses and dual credit courses • Does not follow a specific career path • Serves as the default endorsement for students who do not make a selection

  5. Multidisciplinary Studies Requirements Three Programs of Study: • Advanced Placement and Dual Credit Courses • Academic foundation subjects • AVID* *Requires an application process.

  6. STEM Endorsement • Allows students to focus on Science, Technology, Engineering or Math courses • Requires Algebra II, Chemistry and Physics

  7. STEM Endorsement Requirements Programs of study: • Advanced Math • Advanced Science • Computer Science • Engineering Students pursuing a STEM endorsement must earn credit in Algebra II, Chemistry and Physics

  8. Business and Industry Endorsement • Allows students to focus on a particular career path • May lead to a business or industry certification

Business and Industry Endorsement Requirements Programs of Study: • Agriscience Magnet Program • Animation • Architecture Design • Audio/Video Technology • Automotive Technology Academy • Broadcast Journalism • Business • Construction Management • Culinary • Debate • Electrical Apprenticeship Program • Fashion Design • Finance • Graphic Design • Information technology • Interior Design • Journalism • Marketing • Newspaper • Public Speaking • Technology Applications • Welding • Yearbook NEISD will offer courses under all endorsements, but specific course offerings may vary from school to school

  10. Public Services Endorsement • Allows students to focus on a particular career path • May lead to a business or industry certification

  12. Arts & Humanities Endorsement • Allows students to focus on English, Social Studies, Fine Arts or Languages other than English • May not lead to a business or industry certification

Arts and Humanities Endorsement Requirements Programs of Study: • Advanced English • American Sign Language • Art • Band • Choir • Dance • Flags • French • German • Instrumental Ensemble • Japanese • Latin • Mandarin Chinese • Orchestra • Social Studies • Spanish • Technical Theatre • Theatre NEISD will offer courses under all endorsements, but specific course offerings may vary from school to school

Selecting an Endorsement • Students must select an endorsement upon entering ninth grade • Students may change their endorsement any time, and written notice will be provided to parents • Multidisciplinary Studies endorsement will be the default selection for students who do not make an endorsement selection

  15. Next Steps • Review your 2014-2015 course selections • Complete your four year plan • Select an endorsement • Return the completed High School Four Year Plan and Endorsement Selection Form by May 16, 2014
