developments in Communication from the year 2000-present • Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia is launched • MySpace is created by eUniverse employees; sold to News Corporation in 2005 for $580 million. • Youtube is launched; sold to Google a year later for $1.65 billion. • Analog television stopped broadcasting in the United States.
Impact of Communication Technologies on Education Communication technologies enhance education throughbasic and advanced skills instruction, which include interactive educational technologies, such as Computer-generated simulations, Videodiscs, Internet, CD-ROM. Technology can also be utilized for assessment of student progress.The assessment process becomes more comprehensive with multimedia, provides assessments which require student’s active participation, and make electronic portfolios available. Communication technologies also help to boost student motivation, because they like using technology more, increases family involvement, improves teachers’ skills, and improves School Administration and Management
Impact of Communication Technologies on Business Technology has changed the face and pace of business. Wireless internet, cell phones and blackberries have made it possible to work from home. As information travels faster and faster and more reliably, barriers of distance disappear, and businesses are realizing how easy it is to outsource jobs overseas. One of the biggest ways the internet has changed business is through targeted advertising. Many businesses have succeeded in using the Internet as their primary, or sometimes only, medium.

Impact of Social Media Cell Phone, Texting, E-Mail, Twitter & Facebook (Social Media) – Impacts Skype makes it possible to see and chat with family and friends who live across the globe, or down the street. Facebook allows users to connect with friends, old and new, and to stay up to date on what is happening in their lives. Smartphones make it possible to bring technology and social media with you wherever you go. YouTube gives average people in the world their five minutes of fame, and sometimes even the big break they’ve been waiting for. Twitter provides a medium for users to share their every thought whenever, and about whatever they wish.
What does the future hold? The Pentagon wants robot surrogates for soldiers. Driving a wheelchair or mouse with your tongue. Rat-like image recognition may soon replace GPS tracking
