INIS Database Enhancements On CD-ROM On Interent Future Developments
INIS Database on CD-ROM 2006 ILO's Recommendations: “reiterated the importance of continuing to make the INIS DB on CD/DVD ROM available to INIS Members” “agreed to contact lapsed subscribers within their national boundaries to learn about the reasons for cancelling their subscriptions to the Database, and to inform the INIS Secretariat on their findings. The INIS Secretariat will provide the ILOswith the contact information of those subscribers” “commended the enhancementsof the INIS DB on CD/DVD-ROM and asked The INIS Secretariat to implement the main features developed for the INIS Database on the Internet,in particular access to full text and speedy delivery of the monthly updates“
INIS Database on CD-ROM Action taken: • Monthly updates availableon IAEAFTP server within 48 hours, no additional cost Positive feedbacks from the ILOs and other users • Lapsed subscribers: • 172 in 37 countries • Information sent to ILOs for follow up
Lapsed Subscriptions to INIS DB on CD-ROM Feedback from some ILOs: • Information need related to nuclear industry is not fully covered by INIS • Changes in research directions / company business area • Low usage to justify subscription cost / No fund available • Subscribers moved to use services of national INIS centres • Completion of projects • Language problem • Merge of institutes / Institute no longer exist

INIS Database on Internet 2006 ILO's Recommendation: “emphasized that full textPDF documents locked to external users should be hidden,or a mechanism for access clearly identified” “recommended that theINIS Secretariat should contact countries which restricted their NCLsupply to see if they can provide NCL document delivery services and, if they can, special information about this service should be added to the INIS database” “recommended that theINIS Secretariat will contact all countries which did not reply to INIS Technical Note 166 to clarify the NCLaccess issue for their country” “recommended that theINIS Secretariat give priority first to enhance access to full text via identifiers and second, to implement an export function of citations in standard formats”
INIS Database on Internet 2008 marks the 10th anniversary INIS Secretariat continues to work closely with ILOs to reach additional universities Total current subscriptions: 535 Free: 520 (include 374 universities) Paid: 15 User IDs > 3600 IP addresses: hundreds thousands authorised users
INIS Database on Internet Enhancements: • User Interface and User Manual in Japanese • New version released: Loading time reduced; storing queries optimised • INIS interactive Multilingual Thesaurus with navigationcapabilities • Locked PDF documents removed • Quick Reference Guide
