  2. Legislative Context for effective STINT implementation • Education(Additional Support for Learning)(Scotland) Act 2004 • Documents underpinning East Renfrewshire’s vision • Inclusion, Achievement, Ambition & Progress for all • Curriculum for Excellence • Getting it Right for Every Child

Additional Support for Learning Act • have motor or sensory impairment • are being bullied or are doing the bullying • are particular able or talented • have experienced bereavement • are Looked After • have a learning difficulty • are living with abusive parents or parents who have mental health problems • have English as an additional language • not attending school regularly • have emotional or social difficulties • are on Child Protection register • are young carers Introduced term `additional support needs’ for all young people who for whatever reason for learning require additional support for learning for them to make the most of their time at school.

  4. Examples of ` Additional Support’ as stated in `Supporting Children’s Learning Code of Practice • Children who need a particular approach to teaching • Deployment of personnel from within the school or education authority • Provision of particular resources

  5. Examples of additional support • PSA supporting a pupil • Positive behaviour strategies • EAL support • A More Able or talented child being stretched to meet their potential • Use of voice recognition software for a child with dyslexia • Support from other agencies(SALT, TASN, Social Work, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologist, counsellors, physiotherapists, health workers………………)

Regular Screening where Additional Support Needs may be highlighted • Tracking meetings (4 per year) LM/JT/NF Particular Agenda Items • Primary 1 – Baseline Assessment • Primary 2 - P2 Screening • Primary 3 – P3 Standardised Testing • Primary 5 – P5 Standardised Testing • Primary 7 – P7 Standardised Testing
