  2. Introduction

  3. Thanks for attending my presentation. When was the last time you thought you had a certain amount of money but it turns out you actually don’t? That's why its important to save, because you never know what can happen. Our city is in a huge deficit, and we have to come up with a city budget plan. My name is Tremaine Dees and I will inform you about our cities budget and a budget plan that will eventually solve our money issues.

  4. Research • Pall, Gudgiersson, the assistant city budget manager from San Clemente, Califorina, came up with a five step plan that balanced their city budget in 15 years. • 1. Operation position: ensures that our city only spends what we receive. • 2. public Input: it is important to obtain input from the public while making budgetary decisions. • 3. Zero Based- Production: in producing budgetary estimates , all departments were directed to present hold-the-line budgets by freezing our reducing expenditure levels where ever possible. • 4. Budget Evaluation Teams: put together a group of people that can constally work on keeping our budget balance. • 5. Long Term Focus: it is important that we don’t loose sight of the long term implications of cost reductions measures if they may result in higher costs in the future.

  5. Continued • Houston’s Plan Houston made 17 million dollars worth of cuts out of public safety. The people were forced to pay a higher tax, and also they made everyone pay a higher property tax. Police overtime was cut Houston was able to get out of a 40 million dollar depth in 22 years. New York Plan The city of New York sent letters to their largest non- profits asking for money.

  6. They rose property tax a quarter higher then what it was. • They cut back on the police and fire department. • Rose taxes on home owners. • Rose water services and trash rates. • They shut schools down and they laid off workers. • The city of New York sent letters to their largest non- profits asking for money.
