Factors that Affect your Health • Your health is influenced by personal taste (things you choose to do or not do) • Also influenced by: heredity, environment, family, culture, the media, and technology
HEREDITY • Process by which biological parents pass traits to their children. • Risks of developing diseases: diabetes or allergies • Athletic ability or Musical ability • Physical traits • Eyes, skin, and hair colors • Body type • Body size
ENVIRONMENT The sum total of your surroundings • WHERE you live and go to school • WHAT you breath and water you drink POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE AFFECTS ON YOUR HEALTH
FAMILY AND CULTURE • Culture: the collected beliefs, customs, and behaviors of a group. • Factors include: eating habits (when and what), physical activity, use of health services
