Power Sector: Meaning and Importance. • A arm of BHEL responsible for execution of projects • Our Role comes here!! • Direct responsibility of commissioning the projects • Projects are a mix of BTG and EPC variants • Utility projects and industry sector projects along with international operations’ projects

  5. Nature of civil Works in Power Sector • An initial survey to establish site reference coordinates and levels. • An approved Concrete design mix. • A judicious mix of T&Ps • A well thought out plan in line with project L2 schedule • An effective chase up of engineering/RFC drawings

Areas to be taken care of in execution… • Right coordinates and levels are stepping stone to an accurate job • Quality control with respect to Concrete mix design: check with batching plant regularly to ascertain adherence to approved mix design • Check formwork/reinforcement in accordance with RFC drawings • Accuracy and tolerances are two sides of the coin: Take care… • Embedments/insert plates and Foundation bolts are important

Areas to be taken care of in execution… • Stick to your plans as far as possible and review regularly with the associate • Liaise with Engg centre and mech/elec counterparts regularly to avoid any mistakes in the structures • Equipment foundations are critical to a power plant: be doubly sure for dimensions and locations • Identify critical and non critical aspects of a structure and take decisions accordingly

What does the Job Demand? • The secret of a JOB WELL DONE is to understand functional importance of any structures (in addition to the technical knowledge!!) • OWN the job and take responsibilities • A METICULOUS FOLLOW UP of engineering drawings/clarifications are a must for timely completion of any job • Treat your ASSOCIATE well, he is the KEY TO PROGRESS

  11. What does the Job Demand? • Read and understand the CONTRACT well which helps in effective dealing with the associate as well as customer • Give due attention to the timely CORRESPONDENCE both with the associate and customer
